1. Are they discontinuing all Bites or just the Reese’s ones?  I’ve only had the York and Reese’s ones, both of which were pretty good.  What kind of justice is there when Bites would be discontinued and Swoops left alone?!  WHY!?

   Great review.  Reese’s stuff is just good.  My dad has all-but said that he would buy the dry, salty peanut butter from Reese’s if they sold it.  Reese’s jar peanut butter wasn’t particularly different from Skippy.

2. Well, if it restores your sense of justice in the world, I think they’re discontinuing Swoops too. They didn’t actually say that they were discontinuing anything in particular, just that Pot o’Gold, Swoops and Bites weren’t performing very well.

4. You may have heard of these already, but Reese’s has put out a new peanut-butter candy. REESE’S BAR.  It’s like a fast break but with less chocolate, no nougats, and lots of peanut butter.  I really enjoyed them.  I found mine at Rite-Aid, but they were hidden away pretty well.

5. 1.  Thanks for that thorough review of one of my all time favorites.  Good one!

   2.  With regard to pb cup proportion (I’ve always maintained that this was indeed important) what is your opinion on the bite-size RPBC?

   3.  Do you (or anyone) remember a dark chocolate RPBC that came out sometime in the mid-late 90’s, or am I imagining it?  It was good, even if I am. (Imagining it , that is.)

   4.  Do you (or anyone) remember a RPBC that came in a “Crunchy” variety in the 70’s/80’s?  It was exactly like the original, but with crunchy pb instead of smooth. I’m pretty positive I’m NOT imagining this one.

   5.  Try the Reeses with Caramel refrigerated.  The caramel then becomes more independent and distinctive… and the whole thing yummier AND less messy.  Then tell me what you think. 

   Hope I’m not being too demanding with all my questions and homework assignments!

6. I bought the Reese’s Cups Miniatures with Peanuts a couple of weeks ago. They are AWESOME! Instead of the whole/half peanuts in the big cup, the nuts in the miniatures are either corsely chopped or diced… more texture than a “crunchy” peanut butter, but definitely not as big as the Big Cup’s peanuts. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Big Cup with Peanuts, but these… they’re addictive. Highly recommended. I found mine at Target hidden on an end cap.

7. GTO - when I was in college my grandfather would get this awesome peanut butter cup ice cream - it was chocolate ice cream with a liberal stripe of peanut butter through it. I miss having ice cream with him.

   Jeremy - I saw them on the Hershey’s site, but I haven’t seen them in the stores yet ... but I’ll keep looking.

   2. Reese’s Miniature are the most perfect expression of peanut butter and milk chocolate. They’re fantastic frozen and they’re pretty good all melted after leaving them in the car.

   3. I have a vague recollection of a dark chocolate Reeses but I never bought it.

   4. I do remember the crunchy ones and I did buy them! But it seems that Lauren recommends the Miniatures with Nuts.

   5. I’ll have to find another caramel one to try that with, but it’s on my list now.

8. We were telling our boys about that commercial just the other day!

   Cybele, maybe you need a little plate on your desk to contain any messes (and a spatula, for scraping up oozes :^)

   We first tried the white chocolate Reese’s sometime last year, an after-holiday sale purchase. I think it was the only thing left and I bought it to satisfy pleading children. Anyway, I was surprised to find I kind of like it - it’s much less sweet than a traditional Reese’s, with none of that icky-fake-white-chocolate taste that I’d expected. My boys like to use them for homemade blizzards. But while it’s fine when acquired at 50% or 75% off, I don’t hink I’d ever buy it intentionally.

9. My local 7-11 had a limited edition dark chocolate Reese’s a year or so ago (I bought it at the same time as some Darth M&Ms;), and it was fabulous! And I always keep an eye out for it, but I’ve never seen it since! Sheesh, I hope I wasn’t eating a 10-year-old candy bar…

   Speaking of which, I had Crunchy Reese’s precisely twice (about 20 years ago), and both times they had maggots in them. My mom wrote to the company and they basically blew her off. It was really the fault of the grocery store (nuts are subject to that and they should be sold or moved along quickly, according to Reese’s), but it really turned me off candy for a couple of years.

10. Reeses Cups are quite possibly my favorite candy, especially when refrigerated.  And the ratio does make all the difference.

    I had the dark chocolate ones a couple years back and they were great. I really wish they’d bring them back.  I’ll have to look for them if I go to Hershey this summer since that’s where my roommate found them (and brought me a case!)

    Inside out ones are okay in my opinion. I really like the peanut butter outside coating but wasn’t too thrilled with the grainy chocolate inside. For some reason the graininess only works with a pb filling.

    Also, pb cubs are wonderful in milkshakes all ground up so at the end you have to kind of scoop out the pb cub, ice cream sludge.

11. Mmm, I second the poster who said they should sell RPBC peanut butter in jars. I hate any other chocolate/peanut butter candy because it’s always smooth. Blech.

    PS Not to be the annoying newbie here, and I know you don’t review old candy, but I was wondering if you’ll ever review, say, Hot Tamales, Smarties, Pixy Stix, that kind of thing? (I won’t mention my very favorite candy of all, sour cherry balls, because I’m pretty sure I know already how you feel about them. :D)

12. Hm, I have to say here that my favorite version of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is the miniature.  The chocolate to peanut butter ratio is absolutely perfect.  It really can’t get any better.

    Plus, you can eat a lot and feel like you haven’t really eaten that much because each piece is so small . . .

16. I remember the crunchy PBC, I agree the minis ARE the BEST. I haven’t tried the variations..I’m afraid I won’t like the white chocolate, I don’t usually care for it..but I think we have one in the junk food drawer my daughter go for Valentine’s day..maybe I’ll have to try it...I need to look out for ther carmel, I haven’t seen them in my area yet...Have to check out target..they’re always good for limited editions.

    Lesley - ew! I’ve had candy with those little larvae in them (they’re not actually maggots, they’re just some sort of moth) and always make a mental note to not buy from THAT store again.

    g - I’ve never had mashed up cups in ice cream (me and ice cream don’t get along that well) but now I’m wondering what would happen if you put some mashed up ones in Rice Krispie Squares.

    Pam - I reviewed Hot Tamales a while back (because I was reviewing the Hotter ones), and I do like them quite a bit.

    I’m thinking about doing a Wonka round up, especially since I have some feelings about how they’ve changed things from the time when I was a kid and first fell in love with their products.

    Sara - oh those small pieces can be so nefariuos. It’s one of the reasons I keep them in the freezer ... so I don’t eat them all at once!

    Julilla - it seems so natural for them to always have some sort of crunchy part to the line, doesn’t it?

    Dominic - yeah, I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it after my bad experience with the Take 5 Peanut Butter.

    Amy - give the white one a try. I don’t know what Hershey’s has done, but their new white chocolate they’ve been using is pretty good (for white chocolate).

18. There’s another new kind of Reese’s, peanut butter lovers, which has peanut butter outside instead of chocolate (I assume it’s PB-flavored white chocolate stuff). We bought one but haven’t eaten it yet.

    One that I wish they would bring back is the kind that had a chocolate cookie underneath the peanut butter (like the cookie part of an Oreo). I loved those.

19. There was one called Reese’s Cookie Crunch and it was in a yellow wrapper and very rare to find becuz they don’t make it anymore. It was my favorite kind but now I just like the Insideout Reese. They didn’t put the cokkie crunch pic up, or the dark choclate. the Peanut Butter lover’s verison and the Choclate lover’s verison. There is just so many.

Okay, this is still one of my top three all-time favorite “regular” (read, not gourmet) candies.  I used to have the toughest time choosing between the York Peppermint Patties and the Reese’s Cups at 7-11.  I also used to try to recreate the “chocolate in my peanut butter” ads, but teh PB cups were always better than my experiements.  They really got the flavor, the texture and the ratio of choc. to PB just right.

    OMG is it really after 12:30?  This site is fantastic, but it’s ruining my sleep.

23. I need help! I am desperately looking for the giant Reese’s Pieces that were out earlier this year. I don’t know if they were related to Easter, or if they were just something that was tried out for a little while and then discontinued.

    Basically they were egg shaped Reese’s Pieces that were about twice the size as normal Reese’s. 

    ANY Help you can provide in helping me find these tasty treats would be fabulous!

27. Just a couple of months ago Reeses had a dark chocolate cup that had a cookie underneath the peanut butter. It was to die for. It was released only for a brief time. I have been looking for it ever since. It came out just before the Carmel ones. If anyone knows how I can get a hold of some of those I would really like it alot.

Has anyone else tried the Reeses peanut butter bar kit?  I got Reeses and Almond Joy kits by Hershey’s from Walmart a few months ago and have not been able to find them again.  They were AWESOME.  I have been searching all over and can’t find them anywhere.  Walmart seems to have those types of things before general distribution.

30. This is really bothering me… My friends mom said to me the other day that thye really have changed the peanut butter somehow in reeses.. A few days before that I thought they tasted rather funky. I usually eat a four pack in like 2 minutes.. I ate two in a few minutes and the rest have been sitting on my counter since. It changed the taste and I don’t like it.. I was wondering did they really change the peanut butter? Is it for good or are they testing it out.. if they are testing it they should switch back because they taste so bad now…

32. Mary Reese-Pearson the oldest daughter of H.B. Reese went to my church & lived in my town for many years & was a good friend to my family. She was a very sweet, colorful, loving, Christian lady who loved everyone & love the Lord. She was not weathly as one would assume but never the less, made everyone feel welcome in her little home. She would be over 100 now. She was a walking history book of the Reese & Hershey companies & knew Mr. Hershey. She graduated as a dietician. She has a great reward in Heaven.

    The Reese’s peanut butter was changed. I just tossed 2 bags in the garbage. Not worth the gas to return it. I won’t buy or recommend Reese’s to anyone. It reminded me of when a hamburger chain trys to boost profits by adding a bunch of soy filler to their beef.

    Back to Cadbury.

    The best tasting low-end candy bar IMO is Snickers. The texture and taste is “on the money”.

36. I’m not sure if the peanut butter center has changed, but I’m quite sure the chocolate has, at least in the past year. I’m going to do some checking on this subject.

    Jamie - I don’t have the info on the changes, however there are a few sites on the net devoted to people who collect candy wrappers - they may have some info about how big the packages were. As far as I can tell the Hershey bar has danced anywhere between 9/16 of an ounce to a full 2 ounces over the years (but at different prices):

    The fact that Mrs. Reese-Pearson went to church has nothing to do with being a good person--you are correct. I was just stating that is how I knew her. But she was a very dear person.  Actually I am rather sorry I visited this sight. Why Jan do you hate history & people & Jesus so much? Why are you so bitter in life? 50. Gennece - no, Reese’s probably doesn’t read my site.

    As I’ve announce elsewhere on this blog, Hershey’s has discontinued the Bites line. You can still find them every once in a while (I’m guessing it’s Hershey’s fulfilling existing contracts).

    You might want to try the Easter Reese’s Eggs wrapped in foil. They’re a little bigger than the bites, but a pretty good approximation of the ratio of the Bites.

53. Reese’s are my all-time favorite - I have had to try every permutation as soon as I see it.

    When I eat a Reese’s cup, I eat all the chocolate off, saving the best part, the peanut butter, to eat by itself. So I love love LOVE the big cups (more of that peanut-buttery goodness!)

    I pretty much agree with all your other assesments though (but somehow I think I missed the smooth & creamy ones).

    I LOVE RPBCs, but am diabetic and have to watch my sugar intake now.  I discovered that “Sugar Free” Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups taste nearly as perfect as the originals, but I cannot find them anymore.  Does anyone know where I can buy them, at a store or online?

56. question, I often eat reeses peanut butter cups and think of how good they used to be in the 80’s when I was a little kid.  It seems like the chocolate was of a better quality and there was a greater chocolate to peanut butter ratio.  When you took the wax paper off they held up way better then they do now.  I have also noticed with in the last few years when you take off the wrapper a lot of chocolate comes off and its always real melty.  Im just imagining things or have they dramtically changes in the last 10-15 yrs?

Hello candy (Reese’s) enthusiasts!!!  When I was a little girl my grandmother made the best peanut butter fudge in the world.  Although I am sure a few of you think “your” grandmothers’ made the best, this blog is not about that. I need some help.  In the fall of 2004 I discovered the Reese’s “Inside Outs”.  They were the best thing I have ever had since grandmas.  I thought it was a Halloween promotion because they were gone by Christmas. I did see them some, but not as much the next year.  I have never seen them since.  What is the deal?  Does anyone know a way to find them.  I have even sent some emails to the Hershey’s home site.  I am craving them beyond all belief....

63. I agree with the above commentor: Where are the Inside Outs??? I’ve bought them every year since 2004 and this year they don’t seem to be coming back! I too have asked the hershey’s site and the response was stupid, “Well, it’s a limited edition, you probably just missed it.” I work in a grocery store. My brother works in the non-foods department at the same store. I think I would have known if I had “missed it”.

    I really hope they do eventually come out this year… They’re my favorite candy ever.

64. If you want to taste what Reeses tasted like in the 1950s and early 60s try Godiva chocolates.
    They have a selection which includes one piece that has a peanut butter center. I think it was included in the 4 pound box. I got it after Christmas for about $75.00 about 5 years ago which was dirt cheap.

70. Have they discontinued the jar peanut butter? I used to eat that all the time and then I moved across the country 3 years ago and have not seen it since. At first I thought maybe they just don’t sell it out here. It’s too bad. I tried going back to other peanut butters and I just can’t do it. Reese’s got me hooked on theirs. It IS different from others. Doesn’t taste like the candy (from what I can remember) but it still beats the other brands.

    Did you ever try the jars with peanut butter and chocolate swirls? THAT was a disappointment.

75. I too have been searching for my beloved Inside Outs.  Has anyone found them on a discontinued items site?  I did find a boatload of them at the gift shop after the factory tour in Hershey, but that was in summer of 05.
    I’m also trying to find the Key Lime Almond Joys - they were awesome.

76. All I want to know is how many calories are in ONE reese cup? Then I can work out how many are in the uk packets which contain three. It does nt say on the packets, and on the web what people say varies from one cup containing a whopping 115 cals [their only small!] but then saying a pack of three contains 220 cals, which does not add up because surely it would be 345 cals if one was 115 cal?
    Please someone enlighten me? I love them but will have to fogo them if I can never know what I’m putting in to my body!!
    And I think there should be a campaign for Herseys to put nutritional values on their products!! Is’nt it law now anyways?

Last year I became addicted to a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cookie that was sold in the Wal-Mart bakery.  This product was sold individually from the same case that held the fresh baked donuts and muffins.  The cookies were .88 cents each and they were huge.  The centers were not completely cooked so they were chewy in the middle.  Our store stopped carrying them a few months ago and now they have been phased out at all the local Wal-Marts.  The bakery workers told me they don’t understand why they were discontinued because they could not keep them in stock… go figure.  I have contacted Hershey’s and they said it is not one of their products.  I have also called Wal-Mart’s 800 number and asked them about the cookies.  All they could tell me is that they are no longer going to carry them because they are too expensive.  Is there anyone out there who knows how I can get my hands on some of these cookies?  BTW, apparently the dough came to the Wal-Mart store frozen and already portioned out into individual cookies.  Thanks for your help!  Amy
