2. I just tried some of these, I found them in our little Asian grocery down the street. I love them! Like salt-water taffy, but doesn’t stick to your teeth quite so much (I guess that’s a benefit of the ricepaper) and it’s not so cloyingly sweet. Really good!

8. I cannot prove this by any research, and I wish that I had been saving wrappers at the time (like I do now), but there was a Creamy Tomato White Rabbit at one point that tasted soooo good.  Of course, like most things I enjoy, it was discontinued.  Anybody know of these? Relate!

9. Sara - are you serious? Tomato? I’ve heard that Milton Hershey once designed a line of savory ice creams for his four star hotel ... and tomato was one of the flavors. I’d be willing to give it a try.

12. I love these.  I grew up in Hawaii and remember eating these when I was young.

    40-ish now and I find that I love them even more.

    I did find some for sale at indomerchant.com for reasonable prices on 16 oz. packages. I ordered some tonight.  I cannot attest to the stores reputation as I normally buy them off of ebay though.  No I do not work for Indomerchant!

    I find one way of making them softer is to hold them in the palm of your hand for a couple of minutes!

20. only a handful of countries can test for formalin . and its not in the philippines.  breaking news as of 10 pm tonight.  the chinese government , which owns the white rabbit creamy candy had the candies tested by a third party and the results for formalin is negative.  Singapore distributor also conducting test. Deep trouble for BFAD in philippines.  bunch of clowns running the show.  affected even the white rabbit candy made in the philippinese

I hope this formalin thing gets cleared up soon.  I’m from Hawai`i and I’ve been searching for this candy for over a week and I can’t find them anywhere.  Then I found out the news last night!  Aaargh!  This is MY favorite candy.  I would be very dissappointed if the stopped exporting it to Hawai`i.

    BTW:
    Put some white rabbit in your car on a hot day and they get very soft.  The BEST way to eat them.

24. I appreciate folks piping up with the information about possible contamination of White Rabbit.

    For those not aware, the Philippine government alleges that White Rabbit contains formalin (a carcinogen). The Chinese goverment, the manufacturer and an independent lab have found that there is no detectable level of formalin in the candies in China.

    Are you on O’ahu? If so, Wholesale Unlimited sells various flavors of White Rabbit candy, including the original flavor (think condensed milk)They are in the Mapunapuna area, I believe on Ahua st. Down the street from Bob’s Big Boy, after Jack In the Box, on the next block, on the right, fenced parking lot. They also sell all kinds of seed, mochi crunch, ika,jerky,Betty’s Best Cookies, Tomoe Ame Rice Candy, by the 1/2# & 1# & even Authentic UH memorabilia(Shirts, hats, jackets...The only non food item!, lol) I buy it from there to ship to my brother who lives in Washington now.

    I too am from Hawai’i & LOVE milk candy. There used to be a brand that said “Milk Candy"on the Bag, with white wax paper wrapping W/ red & yellow or purple & yellow asian writing on it. I forget now who made it, but it was the best one, & my favorite childhood candy. About 16 years ago Wholesale unlimited told me the company closed down, the kids didn’t want to take over the business & they don’t make it anymore, but I was happy to find White Rabbit. A close match, & almost as good, & still a favorite.

    Note that the literal translation of the brand name is “big white rabbit” and it is just a brand name as it is used on other products. What I would call the product name is (translated from Chinese) “milk candy” and they do taste basically like sweetened condensed milk to me, not vanilla. I’ve bought these in Shanghai and (assuming they were more fresh than the ones that are exported) they were always hard whenever I’ve had them no matter what the weather. Perhaps they are manufactured that way in order to deal with the warmer climates they are consumed in.

29. Me too, I’m from Hawaii and milk candy wrapped in rice paper in the white wax paper wrapping with the red & yellow or purple & yellow asian writing on it was one of my favorites when I was growing up. It also used to be sold in Shirokiya by weight.

    I have been seaching for this for more than 20 years.  I’m sad to finally find out that its not made anymore. Now that I know that I’ll stop looking for it everytime I go to Longs or Shirokiya.  I thought maybe the packaging changed.

30. With the recent melamine contamination in baby milk powder detected in China, Singapore authorities have detected traces of melamine in the White Rabbit Creamy Candy as well. As at now, both the Singapore and Malaysia government has already banned or recall the product. Please be cautious.

    I don’t know about formalin, but these sweets are being investigated for melamine content.

33. Sure, we need to be careful with what goes into
    our mouths, as Chinese proverb says: “Sickness came in from the mouth.”, so just keep our eyes and minds open. China should tighten their food & drugs control if they were to regain the world market. The same event had happened in other developed countries as well, it’s part of civilization. In the world of food & medicines, it’s trials & errors, sometimes price is so high that they risked their own lives as guinea-pig. Take care!

39. what the hell is going on in China.. all the human rights violations, the murders at the olympics, and now the planned poisoning of the public and the children by tainting the baby milk! I am sure their intent was on pupose having an over population problem and also known to terminate fetuses with birth defects. I say no more dealing with the Chinese in any economic or other way!!!
    Oh Christ, lets not forget the tainted pet food with Melamine, and of course the sickest of them all, using lead based paint for childrens toys!! Made in the U.S.A is the only way to assure that we are not getting terrorized by the Chinese, I mean it does seem to be an on going pattern….let your voice be heard!! We are not guinea pigs!!
