Twizzlers Sweet & Sour Filled Twists
I passed this by more than once (Candy For Dinner always seems to find new products first) mostly because I wasn’t in the mood: Twizzlers Sweet & Sour Filled Twists. But when the weather gets warmer, I seem to crave tangy. They seemed a bit like the now discontinued SweeTarts Rope or a long version of the Twizzlers Twerpz. I bought them in a long “bar” format that has four twists, two of each flavor: Cherry Kick! and Citrus Punch! The twists are clean & shiny, like they’re made of vinyl. They’re similar to the Twizzlers Rainbow Twists, but I think these are just a little larger in diameter or at least not dried and stiff.
Of course, I gravitated towards the Citrus Punch! first. The yellow and red twists reminded me more of mustard and ketchup than lemon and cherry, but I still admit that they were glossy and appealing. The bite is much softer than the regular Twizzlers, less like biting into some sort of extruded & dried acrylic paint. The gooey filling is soft and has a texture of buttercream frosting. It has an immediate tangy pop and a good mix of flavors, both citrus zest and the tartness. It reminded me of a fresh lemon tart. Next up was the Cherry Kick! which I resisted. It’s lighter in color from the deep red & berry flavored Twizzlers. The texture is identical to the citrus package mate. The licorice twist is soft and chewy and has a mild sweet flavor. Then the soft center popped in with a very strong note of woodsy black cherry, cough syrup and artificial flavorings. As far as I was concerned, there are a lot of folks who are going to like the play of the mild chewy outside and the intense flavor of the inside. I really just want to buy the Citrus by itself, perhaps I can pick them out if they package them in individual ropes for Halloween or something. Related Candies

They sure are purty.
So do they taste at all like twerpz? Because I really like twerpz.
I’m a big fan of liquidy filled candy. Combined with Twizzlers? Amazing idea. I’m gonna have to look for these.
I’ll probably never get to try these but Darrell Lea have new licorice flavours out in pineapple and mandarin.
I love these! I just may have to pick up a bag of them while I am work tomorrow.
At first I was afraid they would taste like the rainbow twists which are disgusting, but these are quite different.
Can I safely assume that like the other twizzlers these aren’t vegan? I swear that Hershey’s hates vegans! They’ve even started de-veganized all the Green&Blacks; (no more ginger or mint bars<ARG>).
Here in Phoenix where the internal temperature of our cars can reach 130+ degrees, Twizzlers are a great, safe choice for a snack on the go. Will keep an eye out for these.
Brivari - oh, don’t take it personally, I think Hershey’s has equal contempt for all their customers.
Here are the ingredients:
corn syrup, sugar, wheat flour, vegetable oil (palm kernel & palm oil), contains 2% or less of: citric acid, modified potato starch, glyceryl, monostearate, sodium lactate, natural and artificial flavor, salt, cornstarch, glycerin, soy lecithin, artificial color (Red 40 & Yellow 5), mineral oil, carrageenan, potassium sorbate, carnauba wax, sulfur dioxide.
I didn’t see anything in there that raised a flag about animal byproducts ... though certainly many “unwholesome” ingredients. (And definitely not gluten free.)
Regarding Green & Black’s - my understanding is that they won’t say it’s vegan because it’s on equipment that processes dairy products. Is the issue that you don’t want to consume animal products or that you don’t want to support a company that uses animal products?
The vegan problem with G&B chocolates is that they’ve started putting milk in their DARK chocolate flavors! The 2009 expiration dates are vegan, the 2010 dates have milk<sigh>.
I’d not consider these twizzlers to be vegan because of the glyceryl monostearate, that’s one of many ingredients that can come from animal or vegetable sources. Considering that we’re talking about Hershey’s… I’ll choose to distrust their natural flavors also<LOL>!
At least these aren’t made with resinous or confectioners glaze (that’s dissolved insect shells!)
they used to have things like these when i was younger that i absolutely loved only the licorice was not opaque and there was also goo in the middle. those ruled.
I found these at Target’s front shelf the other day and after seeing your review, I thought I’d try them. I was REALLY disappointed with the Citrus rope… it was sour and tangy, which I liked, but I thought it tasted like Pine Sol or something.
I found these a few weeks ago and thought they would be awesome. This is probably the worst creation I have ever had from twizzlers. It will make me think twice about trying new products from them. Both flavors were pretty bad. It made me wish I had regular twizzlers. They both tasted like some type of cleaner.
I like them. They’re good. To each his own, I guess.
