I saw these on a blog a few months ago (StellaBites) ago and I was immediately entranced with the idea. Why aren’t there more essence flavored chocolate bars? (Well, while we’re at it, why isn’t there a coffee bar in the States?)
This is pretty much a regular old KitKat bar with orange in the chocolate covering the crispy wafers. (I was afraid it was going to be white chocolate.) The scent is wonderfully orangey with a lot of vanilla tones that give it a creamy aroma.
The crisp is the same as you’d expect from a KitKat but perhaps a little sweeter. The orange combines will with the chocolate - though I thought it overpowered it slightly. There was an odd tangyness to it as well, but that may be the KitKat chocolate (I haven’t tried the plain one lately).
If you’re a fan of Terry’s Chocolate Orange, this is a really good everyday bar for you. This is a great treat to have with either tea or coffee.
The interesting thing about KitKat is that it was originally a Rowntree product (the predecessor to Nestle) in the UK. The KitKat bar sold in the United States is produced by Hershey’s. Since it’s produced in the states, it tastes slightly different. Next week I’ll do my second head-to-head taste-off of the Hershey KitKat and the UK KitKat. (Holy Moly! I just looked on the Hershey site and they mention a KitKat Coffee Lt. Edition!)
Rating - 7 out of 10
I’ve been looking for the Coffee KitKat, but I have yet to find them. I don’t know about you, but despite all of these variations of popular candy bars, I find that the original is usually still the best.
Yes, I’ve been reviewing quite a few of these limited edition odd combination bars. I usually pick ones where I already like the original. I think the KitKat is a great bar and never thought that it needed improvement.
I guess it’s all marketing, it’s easier to extend a well-known brand than to invent a new one. (It’s probably easier on the production line too.)
However, I am looking for a coffee bar of some sort and I hope someone starts making them in the States. I’m in the Midwest for a few days and every store I go into I’m keeping my eye out for these Limited Editions - I’m guessing that they go to different parts of the country at different times.
I always liked Kit Kats. Glad to hear they’re keeping the line alive.
I am so going on the hunt for the coffee KitKats! I found the orange ones at Christmas, I believe.
i’ve had melon kitkats in japan. really fragrant melon scent that goes well with chocolate!
Yeah I’ve seen limited edition coffee Kit Kats at my local Target. Target is big on the limited edition Hershey varieties. When I was in England they also had passionfruit, caramel and berry filled Kit Kats. I tried the passionfruit one… it was very typical of those fruit filled chocolates. Depends on if that’s your thing. I’m really keen on trying the green tea Kit Kats.
I would LOVE to try Melon Kit Kats. I’m already half serious about flying to Japan to try the McDonald’s Muscat shake. (100 yen! So cheap!) If I knew I could get flavoured Kit Kats I might have to upgrade that to two-thirds serious.
The most we ever get here is the White Chocolate Kit Kats, which are good, but I’m happy with the original. The “Bit Kit” (Kat? I don’t recall) is pretty good, too.
But I wants them other flavours…
Jamie, I hadn’t checked out the Target for candy bars yet, though I bought a couple of things there a few months ago (I didn’t look at the checkout stands where I’m guessing they would be).
Green Tea Kit Kats! I haven’t seen those and after my affection for the Green Tea Pocky, that sounds right up my alley!
Melon ... I’m not so sure about that, but then again, everyone knows I’m game for everything.
Actually the Target candy aisle is wonderful. Even though it’s mostly conventional candies, they have some store brand varieties of chocolates and relatively cheap.
I would gander to say that the melon Kit Kats would actually be quite tasty, if they’re similar to the Korean honeydew popsicles or honeydew bubble tea, which is nice and creamy.
hi!!! long time lurker… i found coffee kit kat at my local target… it was okay. but im not candy critique!!! i love any kind of candy… except black licorice…
do any of you know ANYTHING about product and price positioning of Kit Kat in the US and Mexico? I am working on a project for my markting class and can’t find anything.
I am a melon kit kat addict but unfortunately only get them when my husband’s family sends them or brings them from Japan. The cantaloupe flavor pairs surprisingly well with the milk chocolate. It is to die for! I am frustrated that I can not more easily and cheaply get my hands on a stash!!! If you haven’t tried them, you are missing out.
I FINALLY got to try these, in Vancouver Canada. They were pretty good I think!
