November Search Strings

Search string changes are a pretty clear indication of the season of the year. Last month’s search strings reflect the departure of Halloween and the arrival of Christmas. Oddly enough, Butterfinger is still going strong, having appeared near the top of all lists and taking over the #1 slot for the first time in November.

1. butterfinger
2. reeses
3. merry christmas
4. kissables
5. razzles
6. christmas candy
7. halloween candy
8. m&ms
9. choxie
10. lemonheads

As with last month, Candy Convention was still coming up pretty high (in the #15 spot), I guess Food Network is still running that special.

  1. I think the fact that butterfinger is on top when you publish the results is what keeps it up there.
I’m going to search it right now because I’m curious and I’m sure there are others doing that now too.

  2. Jonathan - I went and did a search ... the first post that I make that comes up under a basic google search (I didn’t do Yahoo) is my head to head of Butterfinger and 5th Avenue bars, and pretty far down the list.

(And I misspelled Butterfinger last month ... so that’s not helping!)

The way my hosting software breaks these out is by keywords, not the whole search string. From my other tracking thingy people are usually looking for things like “Butterfinger calories” or “Butterfinger fat content” kind of stuff.

I kind of understand that folks are searching for Razzles, since there is no razzles.com, but if I were looking for Butterfinger info, the first place I’d try is butterfinger.com.

But it is an interesting idea ... if I were the type of person who wanted hits that way I could put lots and lots of keywords into my posts or tags.

  3. Ok I didn’t realize that it was seaches from search engines. I thought it was the one that is in your site

  4. Nah, it’s just what brings them here, not what they do once they get here. (I should have made that clearer.)

I’m not sure I can track what the searches are on the site. It only caches the last few, so I’d have to keep looking at it every day or something. I’ll have to poke around.
