Though I try to be on top of the Limited Edition candies and review them when they first come out, I totally dropped the ball on this one. The KitKat Mint Dark Chocolate Minis came out in time for Christmas, though they’re not specifically packaged as a holiday item (other Hershey’s holiday products had little snowflakes on the packages).
The good thing about them being a quasi-holiday item is that they came on sale after Christmas along with all the other holiday candy that may be fresh but sports a now dated red and green wrapper. According to the freshness code, these are good until July 2007!
(On a side note, I have not seen the Cookies ‘n’ Mint Nuggets again this year.)
Let me just start by saying that I liked these far better than the Mint KitKat that came out in the middle of last year. While that one was sickly sweet, this was minty and fresh tasting.
The little shape of these Minis is also fun. Instead of the usual two-fingered snack size, these are a little shorter and of course are only one finger. About the size of my pinkie, which is rather small as fingers go. Because of the small size I felt like there was more chocolate on these. But I also felt like the crispy wafers were really, really crispy. The minted chocolate is pretty smooth, a bit sweet and lacking a rich chocolatey experience, but generally in support of the cookie and mint elements.
I don’t know if I’d buy these again since I’m getting a little tired of them since it was a 10.5 ounce package, but I found them to be far better than most of the other Limited Editions I’ve had in the past year or so.
There are lots of other reviews of these online cuz I am late to the party: SugarSavvy.net, SugarHog.net, News You Can Eat & Slashfood.

God, I’d love to try these. I just can’t find limited editions with any regularity in my area—I certainly haven’t seen these anywhere.
I would love to try these. Kit Kat are hard enough to find (and expensive) in my country :(
I had to decide between these and the mint miniatures while at Target in Nov. I went with the Kit Kat and was fairly disappointed. I thought it too sweet, too minty, and the chocolate coating too thick. After finishing the entire bag I am on mint overload.
FYI, the Japanese “designer” Kit Kats are also this size. The green tea & pistachio combo is actually quite tasty.
hey cybele, love your blog! I just wanted to mention, my sister works at an eckerd drugstore, and they’ve already started selling the cadbury mini eggs for this easter. Although I don’t know if drugstore chains in different states start selling holiday sweets at the same time or not, keep a look out for them nonetheless! I know you love them as much as I do cheers!
I saw these at CVS in Indiana over Thanksgiving, but have yet to find them here in LA. I enjoyed them, but not enough to venture out to Echo Park for a bag.
I bought these for my boys’ stocking for Christmas, because “I don’t like Kit Kats”. But I tried one, and wow! I like THESE Kit Kats! Dangerous - I’m glad my Target sold out of their clearance bags quickly… [on the other hand, every store where I’ve looked at clearance candy has/had an abundance of Kissables. I guess people aren’t into Kissables yet?]
They look…greasy.
Velvet - I didn’t see these or the Lt.Ed. Vanilla York Patties in the regular candy section, they were stuck in with the holiday candy for some reason.
Trini - they don’t sell KitKats in Trinidad! Dang, no wonder you’re cooking and baking (wonderful blog, btw).
cindy - I think I’d enjoy the pistachio and green tea combo. I haven’t had the designer Japanese KitKats, just the consumer ones. Something for me to look forward to.
Leanna - I was in Long’s drug a week or two ago and noticed a huge stack of boxes by the front counter and some Cadbury Eggs piled up for them to insert into a display! Easter is a bit earlier this year than last.
Bruce - I haven’t seen them anywhere since then (I’ve been to Walgreens, Target & CVS).
Tricia - the Holiday Kissables are fun ... just pick out the green ones and hold onto them until St. Patty’s Day and the red & white ones are good for Valentines! (See how much money I can save people.)
Samantha - yes, I think the heat of my light for the photos kind of does that sometimes. (It’s actually the only heat I have in that room.)
These are “to die for”. They are very light, crispy and have a considerable amount of chocolate coating, and are not overly sweet, with just the right amount of mint added. I love dark chocolate and mint. Most commercial candy products are way too sweet for me, I like the Droste 72% the best, so I don’t like many of them. I can eat a peppermint patty but would like it coated with twice as much dark chocolate. I love the wafer crispiness of Kit-Kats but don’t like milk chocolate that much. I was surprised to see these before Christmas and didn’t expect too much…BUT after trying them went back to the store and bought TEN bags! They were on sale at Target for $1.77. I didn’t get there after Christmas to see the sale.
Once again, Hershey’s does not have this for us for 2 years in a row now!! Christmas is not the same without these!!!
We all need to contact Hershey’s a complain about this! I complained to them last year and I have already done so this year!
I’ve seen the plan-o-gram for Rite Aid this year, and it’s not on it!! I’ve searched all over the internet and no one has them!
Bring back these Kit Kats!!!
still looking for mint kit kats >< have to try to find these too next year ><
It seems great like most Nestle product, but we don’t have it here in Lebanon
