Hershey Eggs

For a while Hershey’s made a candy-shelled chocolate candy called Hersheyettes. They’re still produced at Christmas and sold in inside little ornaments or plastic cane-shaped tubes, but they’re not a regular product. Then came Hershey’s Kissables. While they’re a wonderful addition to the Hershey’s line, they’re still not the same as Hershey’s Eggs. Like Cadbury Mini Eggs, these are an Easter Only Item.

There are a lot of egg shaped candies this time of year, and just calling something Hershey’s Eggs seems like a poorly differentiated name. But candy lovers know what we’re talking about. Forget that the packaging probably hasn’t change much in twenty years ... these are just a jolt of chocolate wrapped in hard sugar.

Hershey’s Eggs have it all going on. It’s a large egg of chocolate, bigger than the size of an M&M Peanut. They come in lovely pastel shades of blue, yellow, pink and green. The shells are thick and hard, and give each candy a rather substantial feel. They’re solid milk chocolate and each Egg weighs the same as a single Hershey’s Kiss (really! I checked). The shells are super-thick and crunch but often I find that my shells have cracks in them. As I don’t think you can get salmonella from chocolate eggs, I don’t reject the broken-shelled ones as I would with a carton of chicken eggs. I do find that I’m not able to cleave off the shell with my teeth like I can with an M&M, but the different type of crunch is wholly satisfying. If someone is eating these near you, unless they’re suckers, you’re gonna know it.

Where the bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs smells like sugar and milk, the Hershey’s Eggs smell like chocolate. That tangy milk chocolate from Pennsylvania that you either love or hate. Fortunately there’s enough room in my heart to give both Hershey’s Eggs and Cabury Mini Eggs a ten. And of course I’ll proceed to stock up on these when Easter is over.

  1. These are what Mega M&Ms;should have been.  Actually, I wish Mega M&Ms;were the size of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

  3. Hi- do they have these this year?I cannot find them in ANY stores… they are my ritual :(

  4. Kris - I got this bag just a week ago, so I know they exist. However, when I went to Target, they didn’t even have their Easter candy out yet ... there’s still 4 weeks to go, they may get easier to find.

  5. I remember these from when I was a kid, and I loved them.  The only easter candy I loved even more were these peanut butter filled chocolate eggs that my mom would by at a local candy shop.  Those things were huge, I would have to cut it into thin slices like a loaf of bread.  I haven’t seen these anywhere since I moved to Virginia.  But I have discovered the cadbury mini eggs, which are equally as good in their own way.  I really like putting the cadbury minis in the fridge before I eat them.

  6. I had never had these or the Cadbury Mini Eggs before, so I decided to buy a bag of each and compare them - for scientific purposes of course hehe.  It turns out that I like these a lot better than the Cadbury ones because their chocolate is a lot chocolate-ier.  I think I prefer the smaller size of the Cadbury Eggs though.

  7. Has anyone found the Hershey’s Eggs? I am in LOVE with them & haven’t been able to find them this year!!!! If they made them year-round I would be twice the woman I am now:)

  8. Cricket - I’ve already bought two bags from Rite Aid (I definitely need to stop ^_^), and I’ve seen them at CVS, so you should check your local drugstore.

  9. Dear Lord!! These things are sinful! I could be obese and happy during Easter just for this candy!

  11. If you can find them, Nestle’s Smarties eggs, which only appear around Easter, are quite good too. Like the mega-M&Ms;but with out the chalkiness of the chocolate-like product used in M&Ms;

  12. These are the best!  It is a good thing they are only out at Easter - this is one of only two foods that I have absolutely no self control over!

  14. YES, these are the best and in fact I am eating a few right now. i am soo obssesed with them that I bought 12 bags and am going to ration then out through the year with one bag a month. I don’t celebrate easter, but easter candy is my fave and these are my favorite.

Al the fans of these candies who wrote in, I am right with you--these make easter for me! I am so glad I have found other people who share this love with me! Ahh, it’s like it all makes sense now. hee hee

  15. These are the BEST candy ever.  We buy tons of bags at Easter and freeze them so we can have them throughout the year.  I could eat the whole bag in one sitting.  I also discovered that they had the same thing at Halloween this year - they were just Orange & Black.  Found a bunch on clearance and froze them too smile

  21. I can’t believe there are others out there.  I was just looking on the Hershey website to ask WHY they don’t produce these during the year and lo and behold I find the answer right in front of me.  They are only produced at Easter.  Last year I was able to buy a dozen after Easter to hold me over for the year.  This year I was only able to find one, that’s (1) bag and I had only bought four for Easter and filled the 6 baskets with 3 and gave one to one daughter who is addicted to them.  They are the bestest candy in the entire world.  Hershey, please please please sell them year round.  They will make you even richer than you already are.  We promise.

  22. I have been addicted to Hershey eggs for years. I happened across this site while searching the web for a place that might still have some for sale! I too typically stock up on them at Easter time. I am known for buying the local Walgreens supply up. (the sales people must think I’m nuts).  This year I couldn’t control myself and ate my entire stash by mid-April. So I am on a hunt.

I am both pleased and amazed that there are so many others just like me.

My name is Kim and I’m addicted to Hershey Eggs!!!
