Ginger Bears

Name: Ginger Bear
Brand: Buderim
Place Purchased: Trader Joe’s
Price: $3.29
Size: 12 oz
Calories per ounce: 90
Type: Gummi/Ginger

It’s a like a dream come true. Someone’s combined one of my favorite candies with one of my favorite flavors.

Well, it’s the thought that counts.

Ginger Bears are gummi bears with real ginger in them. That’s why they’re kind of cloudy looking. I’m not sure if that expains why they smell like photoprocessing chemicals. Not the bears themselves, just when you smell them in the bag. I know that ginger in and of itself doesn’t have a great scent, kind of like wet earth. But this was more of a chemical smell and might be from the bag itself. I took a few out and let them air out on the desk, they seemed fine after that.

These bears are a bit larger than the ones we’re used to from Trolli or Haribo. They’re also not quite a gummi, think Swedish fish, really. But, they’re very spicy, not too sweet and are decently priced.

What I like about them is that they’re not sticky. While I like the Ginger People’s and Chimes’ Ginger Chews, they are very sticky and might one day yet pull out some of my fillings. These are soft, chewy but with a good consistency and not the slightest bit sticky. They could use a little work on the appearance but other than that, they’re a solid recommend as long as you keep your nose out of the bag.

  1. I think I saw these the last time I was at TJ’s. I like ginger in candy - the Ginger Altoids that are also at Trader Joe’s were pretty good. $3.29 seems a bit high, but I don’t get to buy much candy so maybe that’s normal now…

Nice blog by the way, got to you from Marvo’s site

  5. I am extremely disappointed that you have stopped carrying “Ginger Bears”.  What do I have to do for you to get them back???  I have given them to many people and now there are tons of folks who love them but cannot find any.  Ginger is a very popular taste in today’s market.  They are better then ginger chews because they do not have all that sweet powdered sugar on them.  Even mild diabetics eat them.  I am in the health care field and have been told that many patients receiving chemo love these Ginger Bears to help their unsettled stomachs.  I have sent them to folks as far as Dallas.  One friend just recently found them at the World Market there and more expensive.  Raise your price if you want but please get them back on your shelves!!!  Thanks

  6. Yes, you need to carry the Ginger Bears for my friends who have TJ’s to buy them from but we need a Trader Joe’s in Dallas. There are so many things you carry that I cannot get here. All the wonderful Dallas shopping but we do not have Trader Joe’s! Please, please open one here in Dallas and soon- please.

  7. Does anyone know where I can locate Ginger Bears? Trader Joes and World Market seem to have stopped carrying them!

  8. I found a few places online, Lucinda:

    SimplyOz.com

    Order Ginger.com

I’ve never ordered from them, so I don’t know if they’re great webstores or not. You also might want to make a request at your stores - sometimes they can help you out by transfering or requesting from the home office.

  9. These are great, i really like them, i like lollies with a bit of burn. Their chocolate covered ginger isn’t too bad either.

  10. I am JEALOUS.

Trader Joes in CA used to carry them; I got hooked on them, and they STOPPED stocking them in CA stores.

The next time I see these, I will buy an entire case.

  11. I got hooked on these as well, and then they were gone!!!
I am going to try and get a couple cases from those sites and I will let you know how it goes.
I love them when I am studying, cause I crave sugar when I have a tough course load, like right now and they do not make me crash, even if I eat a lot of them! They’re the best!

  12. I’ve tried the guys from Aussie Food Shop. So far so good. http://www.aussiefoodshop.com/page/page/5156138.htm I’ve also asked for a few items in time in the Gustbook as they’ll add anything u want. All their stuff is the real thing as it comes from Sydney. I found that as time passes I remember other things I miss ..
