Here it is, my grand list of sites and spots on the internet.
It’s not complete, just a work in progress.
Organized Candy
Official and unofficial organizations devoted to sweets, the companies that make them and sell them
Candy USA - the American Confectioners Association consumer site (the folks that put on the All Candy Expo)
Chocolate Manufacturers Association - the official site of the National Confectioners Association
World Cocoa Foundation - devoted to farming and harvesting of the cocoa bean using sustainable methods to better the lives of farmers around the world
Candy Container Collectors of America - like the name says, they collect old candy containers.
Candy Organized
Wrappers, labels, history and other related obsessions
Brad Kent - “The Quasi Comprehensive Candy Bar Wrapper Image Archive” - excellent search and includes nutrition info - nearly 600 candies so far.
The Candy Wrapper Museum - great collection of classic and current wrappers divided into categories like Celebrities (Bionic Man & Liberace bars anyone?) and Big Eats (Chicken Dinner and Big Treat).
The Chocolate Wrappers Museum - extensive galleries of scans of international candies (all chocolate) - check out my favorite
Mike’s Candy Bar Wrappers - over 250 wrappers of candy bars, including holiday novelties and international versions.
Gum Wrapper Chain - Gary Duschl’s ever-growing chain made from the wrappers of sticks of gum. Over one point one million at last count (that’s over 47,000 feet).
Marcel’s Swiss Chocolate Wrapper Collection - not a lot of images, but some great info
The Candy Box - candy wrappers, primarily from North America but a lot of Latin American ones too.
Talking about Candy
These are other sites that I visit often in addition to the links over there on the right.
SeventyPercent.com - reviews of chocolate bars with 70% or greater cocoa solid contents. Also forums and store.
Tasting Menu - a blog about food, includes sweets often
Bad-Candy - the ultimate bad candy website! Exhaustive accounts of bad candy plus forums to add your foul experiences
Road Food - a great forum with an active area to discuss candy. A great spot to help track down regional items.
Candy Sources on the Web
I’ve not ordered from all of these companies, but they’ve all been around for a while and are well regarded
Big Tips Candy - web source for hard to find candy bars, limited selection but cool facts about each one
Candy Direct - web source for candy, all types, sells in bulk and lots of themed gift candy boxes
Candy Favorites - large selection, requires bulk-sized purchase of most items, great section on candy history and scans of old candy advertisements, you can get lost there for hours just reading their huge collection - based in McKeesport, PA (*)
Candy Warehouse - web source for candy, great themed pages like extreme candy, Vegas party, as well as holidays. Selection of hard to find brands like Chupa Chups and regional/nostalgic favorites - based in Los Angeles, CA (*)
Chocosphere - huge selection of gourmet chocolate bars, based in Portland, OR (*)
Economy Candy - good selection, good prices, some hard to find nostalgia candies, based in New York City
Jbox - Japanese candy and snacks including exotic KitKats and Pocky. (*)
Old Time Candy - robust selection of hard-to-find candy but more importantly, they sell single bars. Based in Olmsted Falls, OH
Sugar Stand - bulk candy at good prices. Great organization so you can shop just for sour, jelly beans, fruit flavors or by format like lollies, chocolate bars or jewelry. Based in Rowland Heights, CA (SoCal)
Items marked (*) are places where I’ve ordered or have a relationships with the company and can heartily recommend them.
Candy Manufacturers
I’m still working on this section, so at the moment it’s woefully incomplete:

Brown & Haley - the makers of Almond Roca
Butterfields SweetWorks, Inc. - hard candies in a tin
Cadbury Adams - Trident gum, Dentyne, Certs and Halls cough drops
Ferrara Pan Candy Company - home of Lemonheads, Atomic Fireballs, and Jawbreakers. Based in Chicago
Ghirardelli Chocolate Company - San Francisco’s own chocolate company
Godiva Chocolatier, Inc. - the first widely distributed upscale chocolate in the US, still the gold-standard (though I find some of their stuff a little too waxy and sweet, the packaging is as good as Tiffany’s)
Goetze’s Candy Company, Inc. - maker of the Caramel Cream
Jelly Belly - those cute little fabulous-flavored beans as well as other Confections productions
Hawaiian Host Chocolates - if a friend has ever brought you back some chocolate from Hawaii, chances are it was Hawaiian Host.
Hershey’s - includes Hershey Chocolate, Twizzlers, York Peppermint Patties, Kit Kat (US only), Mounds/Almond Joy, Fifth Avenue, Reese’s and Jolly Ranchers among others.
Just Born, Inc. - Mike & Ikes, Hot Tamales, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews, Marshallow Peeps ... a candy company devoted to childhood favorites
M&Ms - owned by Mars
NECCO - New England Confectionary Company, known for Necco Wafers, Sky Bar, Mary Janes, Haviland Thin Mint, and now the Clark bar ... another small candy company that’s keeping old regional favorites alive
Nestle - originally a Swiss chocolate, now known the world over
Palmer Candy Company - The Twin Bing as well as barks, fudges, brittles and clusters.
Pearson Candy Company - Salted Nut Roll, Nut Goodie and Mint Patties, they’ve also got the (Wayne) Bun Bar now.
Peerless Confection Company - an exhaustive collection of hard candies: anise squares to watermelon slices
Russell Stover Candies, Inc. - those boxed candies that you pick up in the drug store
Scharffen Berger - upscale chocolate bars with intense flavor

Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company - Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum, JuicyFruit, DoubleMint, Orbit, Eclipse, Freedent, Big Red
World’s Finest Chocolate, Inc. - that fundraising chocolate that the kids in band always try to sell you
Feel free to leave comments with stuff to add.
I don’t know if you can help but I’m looking for information on a “penny candy” I used to love in the mid 1960’s. They were called “Bits” and they came in penny sized rolls containing maybe 6 little chalky tablets. There were Cherry Bits, Lemon Bits, Lime Bits and my favorite Orange Bits which tasted exactly like childrens asprin. (I know - thats weird) But I loved these, they weren’t to sweet, not to sour and had the perfect “disolving away” in your mouth. Anyway I know its an odd thing to remember all these years later but I often wonder if they are available out there by some other name or in another part of the country. Any idea?
Cara - I’ve done some digging around and I can’t seem to find them, though I have a vague recollection of them too. They were bigger tablets than Smarties, weren’t they?
Do you have any idea how to get Stutz’s candy online? They’re based in Philly, but my google-fu can’t seem to find me an online retailer that carries them.
Response to Cybele: Thanks for taking the time to research this. Yes they were “thicker” than Smarties but about the same diameter. Also I remember the roles being shorter than Smarties. Now ask me what I learned in school or what I had for lunch yesterday and I couldn’t tell you-but I remember these. I bought these on the way to the movie matinee on Saturdays at a penny candy store called Bill’s Place from the meanest old codger who delighted in screaming obscenities and slapping your hand with his fly- swatter. Funny the things you remember.
I’m sort of sad that Good and Fruity’s aren’t around anymore. I always liked them so much more than Mike and Ike’s. Any idea where to get them?
I was wondering if there was any way sugarstand.com could be added to your list of links. Thank you
-Linh

Have you ordered from them sankar? How did it turn out? Looks like a good place for folks in North America to get European sweets except that shipping is insane though! 18 quid for an 8 quid order!
can anyone tell me the correct name of a penny candy it was a nougant candy with bits of jellied fruit, ithink they used to be called frenchies
I’ve always known them as “Jelly Nougats” as that’s what Brach’s calls them. There may be other names for them under other manufacturers.
I think Brach’s makes them in two shapes - round ones and sort of cube ones.
i’ve got a debate going on and i need to know the answer...is gum candy? or is it just gum? i would really appreciate any help! thanks!
I consider gum to be candy. The same way that breath mints are also candy.
I’m not as keen on gum as I am on other forms of swallow-able candy though.
gum is totally a candy! anyone who doesn’t think so doesn’t know what they are talking about mwahahaha.
I am looking for a yellow wrapper from the old Bolster Bar (later to be replaced by the Clark Bar). If anyone has one or knows where I can find one, please write back. 5-10-06

Does anyone know where I can find Mactavish Butterscotch candy by Beacon?
Ok, this is a long shot, but I desperately need help trying to figure out a candy I had while in Germany a few years ago. For the life of me I can’t remember what it was called, but it came in the typical bag, and looked a bit like Taffy Delight, though perhaps a bit plumper, and each flavor was a swirl of white and the appropriate color. If I recall, the flavors were Orange, Cherry, Strawberry, and Lemon. The texture was the best thing… not nearly as chewy as a Taffy Delight, softer than those orange mellow pumpkin things at halloween… I don’t think they were necessarily German, as languages on the back were numerous. If you have any idea, or can think of anyone who might know, I would be forever grateful. They weren’t rare over there; I bought them every time I went to the local market.

I got into a discussion with a friend about a candy that I used to love in the ‘90s. It comprised of the same kind of string that is now used to make Pull’n’peel twizzlers, but they were arranged into patterns. He says they were called “String thing”, but I can’t find any trace of them.

Wasn’t there a candy bar called Milkshake? And whatever happened to the Mars bar? It seems to have disappeared completely.
William at Chocolate Obsession recommended your blog and I’m glad he did. Thanks for the tip about putting down white paper for a makeshift studio.
Jeanna - The Mars bar did disappear and was reformulated and named Snickers Almond (but also contains peanuts). I did a review of that here.
Thanks thaibu for the link for Cate!
Cheapest wholesale candy prices online I have ever seen.
Hi, My girlfriends and I have this very found memory that binds us all (sad actually) about this candy we had in the mid 90’s I suppose called String Thing. I can’t find anything on this candy on the web at all… Do you have any “sting thing” connections?
This website has a lot of old time candy. If you don’t see it on the website, email and ask if they have it. They also have Fizzies! The old time drink tablet candy.

I’m needing some help after many wasted hours using search engines. We are planning on opening a bulk candy shop in the area, with an assortment of gourmet chocolate and hard to find candies. We are also planning on having a section of candies from around the world....Im in need of any suppliers of Japanese candies. I have had no luck finding any that sell in bulk. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

STUTZ’S CANDY ~ the store is still in JENKINTOWN PA, and you can call them for shipping of their items: (215) 884-7212
I grew up in Abington (Abington Sr HS, ‘66), and a treat around XMAS for me was their DOUBLE DIPPED MINTS!
Hi,
When I was a kid growing in Newark NJ, during the mid to late sixties, my grandmother would bring me these orange jelly candies filled with a soft caramel. I was allergic to chocolate and could not eat chocolate, so when she stopped at the candy store in downtown Newark to purchase some chocolate, she would buy me a few of these candies.
My grandmother is gone and the only other person that would remember is my mother and she insists she has no idea what I’m talking about.
Anyway, I was hoping someone would know what these were called and if they can still be purchased somewhere?
Thanks,
Chris
would like to know where i can purchase the old fashion cady that look like watermelon slices please help
hi am looking to import soft jelly cand from spain can you hlep me.
omar
Omar - try that first link up there for the National Confectioners Association - they publish a directory of candy manufacturers.
http://ecandy.com/
Connie - I’ve seen them in bulk bins but I don’t know the name of any of the brands. I found some here, but they’re not watermelon:
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=5667&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=38&iSubCat=179&iProductID=5667
Chris - I’m afraid I haven’t heard of those. There used to be a lot of confectioners, often at departments stores or bakeries that would come up with their own candies ... sadly many of them are gone and so are the recipes.
Hi! I was reading through your link section and you were missing a really good website of a store based in England that sells lots of good old fashioned English sweets/candy that can be hard to get elsewhere.
I have used it a couple of times and the selection is very good.
This is the URL
http://www.thepinksugarmouse.com/
Hi, i was reading your blog and it’s good for sweet and candy information.
I also notice a good british wedding candy site for Uk people.
The site is http://www.sweetiebag.com
Do they still make the Meltaway Bar and where can I get it?
hi
Offering beautiful custom gift baskets and gourmet gifts for almost any occasion.
Hi,
I was wondering if you might have a recollection of a candy company called Society? I am looking to find the candy for my Grandmother. This is what she remembers:
“The society candy that I was interested in was the hard candy. It came in a bottle with many different flavors and colors, some striped, some minted and some terrible tasting red ones (with licorice flavor) that burnt the tongue.
There was also the ones with soft center (I think jam like consistencies) which was also good. “
Any leads would be much appreciated! I would love to surprise her with a tin of these.
Thank You,
Lauren
Hi,
What a fun website!
You did a story on Munchies, in Los Angeles where I am from.
I will be living in Ct for a year and was wondering if there is a kosher candy/chocolate store similar to that in NY?
Thanks for your time,
Melanie
I keep getting e-mails that say, someone has responsed to your question.(Do they still make the Meltaway Bar?)I check the e-mail and there is no response?
James - if you’d like to stop getting notifications, there’s a link at the bottom of the email (and this one) to unsubscribe. Though it may say that someone’s responded to your comment, it could be anyone responding in this discussion thread. (Sometimes there’s spam and I delete it quickly so it’s not on the site but the email notification still goes out.)
Melanie - I went to Economy Candy on Rivington in NYC (check my NYC candy guide) and found that they carry a lot of Kosher candy, though I can’t say that they’re a Kosher store through and through (as I don’t know how I’m supposed to find those things out).
Lauren - I’ve looked it up in a couple of books and can’t find anything about it. It may have been a regional candy.
I am looking for info on Candy “Tags”. I recieved a gift several years ago with many different kinds of candy, each ine “tagged” with a cute saying. Ie: Lifesavers-you’re a lifesaver, 100,000 dollar bar-you’re worth this and more etc. If anyone knows of these and more, a web site of anything, PLEASE let me know asap! Thanks…

Thanks
FlamingHotCandy.com is the home of Hot Cinnamon Flaming Hearts. Hand poured hard candies made hot. More flavors soon.
i`ve been asking some of my friends if they remember “string things” back from elementry school in the 90s .. alot of people remembered but no one can find them .. please if someone can find any trace of them send me an email at
thanks ,
Dara
can a person buy just the watermelon jolly rancher candy by itself?
Tami - your best bet is to find a store that sells the Jolly Rancher candies in bulk. Some grocery stores have a bulk candy bin section. I’ve also seen Watermelon Jolly Ranchers in the “Stix” at 7-11 and other convenience stores.
I am looking for a chocolate that I got a few years ago. I can’t remember the name of it but I got it at a Japanese candy store in Chinatown. Made in Japan, it’s little cubes of a soft and creamy chocolate, with a dusting of cocoa powder. Cubes are about 1/2 inch. Tasted like a dark chocolate. Wondering if anyone knows the name of it, and where to get it?
Thanks
Leafye
Leafye - it sounds like Meltykiss made by Meiji. They make a few different varieties, dark chocolate is the original.

Wonder if you could add my site, we are an old fashioned Scottish sweet shop specialising in retro sweets. We have some very interesting products with some of the recipes dating back to the 1930’s and probably even further!
Ww are a new gift basket company interested in linking to your company.
Hello i work back in the 60s in a company call terry candy in elizabeth nj i wiil like to know if they still in bussines or they no longer exits.

Hi,
I am looking for someone who knows what kind of candy bad this was. I thought it was the original Mars Bar. But, from all the descriptions, I can’t find that it ever existed.
It came in a yellow package - (Same kind of yellow as Peanut M&Ms;) and in red lettering, it said MARS.
The candy was almost thin, maybe about a quarter inch thick. white soft nouget, and 2 almonds on top, all coated with chocolate.
And whatever happened to it.
I was sure it was a Mars Bar, then they changed that bar, and made it thicker, into something similar to a snickers, and called it a Mars Bar. And then,it had a lighter yellow wrapper.
Do know of this?
Was it a Mars Bar?
and if so, why did they change it?
Thanks
Joe Taylor
For my dads birthday i wanted to get him his favorite candy from when he was a kid in the 1960’s. However, he can’t remember what they were called. All he told(or could remember) about them, was that they were lemon hard candies that came in a roll, were individually packed, were from England, and he couldn’t find them anymore around 1970. If anyone knows what they’re called i would greatly appriciated it.
Thanks for the help
I am trying to locate the cinnamon red hot candies and have been unable to locate them. Any ideas? thanks

Great Candy Apple Store:

I’ve been racking my brain to remember the name of chewy chocolate candy shaped like tiki heads probably 1960’s. They were kind of like chocolate babies but a different shape. Any ideas?
I am looking for some licorice I found when I was in Scotland (spec. Isle of Skye) last fall. I am kicking myself for not saving the back or taking a picture of it.
I didn’t find it anywhere else on my trip other than at a gas station in Broadford. It was in a brown colored bag. I’d know it if I saw it & I didn’t see it anywhere on this website.
For some reason, I seem to think it was from a distillery. All I remember was it was the freshest licorice I had tasted in a very long time. When I left the Isle of Skye in late Novemeber, I bought up the supply at the store.
If anyone might know what it is, go ahead & e-mail me at nobody(at)intl(dash)cdds(dot)com
Thanks
