Obviously it’s going to take me a while to get through these, and not all will warrant full reviews. Most are products I’ve never had before (or at least flavors).

These are in alphabetical order by company, I don’t really have a plan yet. As I was putting the list together, I was noticing trends of things, like real-fruit-juice gummis and new delivery devices for candy. If you have something that you’re curious about and want me to move to the top of the list, speak up.

As for my plan, I’m going to do as much chocolate now, since the weather is getting warmer and I fear the loss of much of it because of the heat in SoCal (I don’t have air conditioning).

  1. These are the ones that peaked my interest the most:

    6. Anthon Berg: Marzipan (Strawberry in Champagne/Apricot in Brandy)
    16. Botticelli: Choco-Omeg (Raspberry, Choco-Cal, Choco-Mind)
    47. Golden Boronia: Soft Nougat (Apricot, Original, Green Tea, Cappuccino)
    61. Jelly Belly: Soda Pop Shoppe (assorted soda flavors - brand tie-in with Crush)
    62. Jelly Belly: Smoothie Blend (Cherry Passion Fruit, Mandarin Orange Mango, Mixed Berry, Pineapple Pear & Strawberry Banana)
    63. Jelly Belly: Sport Beans (Fruit Punch)
    113. Yummy Earth: Organic Lollipops (Pomegranate, Watermelon, lemon, orange, berry)

I’ve heard of #6 before and I see them on occasion at my local grocer, I"m curious to know what you think of them.

#16 because I’m hoping the chocolate tastes as good as the “health benefits”. Maybe do a comparison with CocoVia along side it?

#47 because I LOVE nougat…and Apricot and Green Tea are favorite flavors of mine. A match made in heaven?

I also LOVE Jelly Belly. New flavors are always exciting. smile I’m curious too how the Fruit Punch flavor in the sport version turned out.

#113 sounds interesting, especially since most lolliopops are “artifical”.....although “organic” can be “artifical” nowadays it seems. In any cause, I’m curious on the taste.

That’s some great candy swag you go there! *turns green*

  3. Thank you for the great show coverage, it’s much appreciated! I noticed several organic products among your samples and I was wondering if you saw a trend in this direction at the show. Also, are the organic products mostly from organics-oriented companies or are they new lines from more mainstream companies? Thanks again!

  4. Let me know how you like the Ritter Sport Dark Choco with whole hazelnuts.  I think it’s yum!  Also…be careful with the tamarind candies, I hear tamarind tastes like naugahyde underwear of the Anti-Christ.  Maybe just poke it with your tongue a couple times to minimize the damage…heh.

  5. So, basically, you only need to go to Candy Expo once every 5 years to have a full inventory to review. That’s a longer list than I care to read, let alone contemplating eating. I say just eat it all and review the tasty and the quirky. That ought to be entertaining.

I can hazard now that I’ll probably not review everything, but at least I’ll have a reference point for future stuff that I see in the stores.

Sera - I tried the orange organic lolly on the floor and found it very tasty. I’m really looking forward to the pomegranate one.

James - trends? I did seek out the organic & “wholesome” products because that’s kind of what I have an interest in. The Sconza stuff is not from a normally organic company, so it’s an exciting direction for them to take (at least in my opinion).  The lollipop guys were in it as organics from the get-go.

I’ll probably post more on it later, when I’ve gone through more of the stuff. There are official trend spotting press releases going around, but introductions of products and them actually catching on are two different things.

Julilla - I might get my neighbor to do the Mexican stuff as she weas very excited to see what looked to me like some cayenne pepper/sawdust stuck on a stick.

I tried the Ritter last night and I can say right now it’s going to be a pretty rave review.

merri - the Anthon Berg do look fab. I’ve had one of each of the liquid filled ones and they’re very promising. I need to find out how much the cost and who sells them retail now!

  10. Hi Folks,
I have just come accross a chocolate recipe written by my great, great grandmother more than 100 years ago. Apparently she was always experimenting with different tastes, she was one of the chief tasters in the Hartleys jam factory.. The recipe does not have any instructions, does anyone have any thougthts on what I should do? I don’t know whether to post the recipe or simply find out how to make the chocolate. I am known as Barry de Barrel because I am a pie maker, I know this site is full of people in the know, (which I’m not about sweets), so I thought I would ask.

    Thanks
