Everybody Mamba!
Name: Mamba
Brand: Storck
Place Purchased: Long's Drug
Price: $.69
Size: 2.65 ounces
Calories per ounce: 125
Type: Fruit Chew

First, here's a great value - 2.65 ounces for the price of a regular candy bar! And individually wrapped, so you can have some now and save the rest for later on. The package says that it has THREE servings.
I'd never tried these before and I'm not sure why. I know Storck best for their ultra-chocolately Riesen caramels. (Not for those without solid teeth or dental work.)
I know, fruit chews ... you're thinking Starbursts and you're not far off. What's different about the Mamba is that there are only three flavors: Orange, Strawberry and Raspberry. Inside the main package there are three smaller packages of each flavor containing 6 chews.
The chews are soft and sweet with a good tart bite to them. Not quite as "juicy" as Starbursts, they have a bit more of an aromatic flavor to them, with a perfumey Strawberry and Raspberry along with a zesty Orange.
The only thing that confuses me is that the package says strawberry, orange, raspberry and lemon. With only three of the small packages within, you're always gonna get shorted. Sadly, lemon is one of my favorite flavors and I'm sorry I missed out on that.
Rating - 8 out of 10 (great price)

They do have lemon Mamba... They come in the bagged packages, and the larger "bar" of Mamba as well. They're fantastic, too!
What they do with Mambas is they randomize the flavor combo in every package...so you always get three out of the four flavors. I'm always dissapointed when i dont get raspberry.
Those are one my absolute favorite candies!
I love your blog, btw :)
Completely off topic, but have you ever had Torrones? Reaalllllyyy good.... Really addictive...
Heehee, getting tired of me suggesting things yet?
I've learned to NEVER trust those random "servings" numbers. They're fun to laugh at, but that's about it.
I'm bummed that my randomized Mamba didn't have any lemon.
Tindy - I was just chatting with Russ there yesterday about Torrones! Love 'em, I used to get them in my Christmas stocking (and when I got older I learned that they were much cheaper after Christmas).
I'll have to do a post about them, definitely - I was looking for them at Cost Plus the other day because they'd already put out their Xmas candy and didn't see any. I'll go to the local Italian grocer and they'll set me up.
Yay! Score 300 for Torrones.
I need some too... I think I went through 20 of them in a week last year, LOL.
Have you ever had the lemon ones?
Tindy - I like the lemon ones but I think my favorite is the orange. I'm not an amaretto fan, so I used to be able to trade with my siblings when I was a kid.
Trader Joe's has some sort of almond nougat that they sell which is kind of like the French stuff that I've had a few times. It doesn't have that honey taste to it though that I like in those little boxed Torrones.
Random fact about me and Mambas: I'd un-wrap the whole lot of them, squish them together into a big ball (I think I got the big pack, because I remember 4 flavors) and stick it in the freezer. A few hours later, I could be found knawing on my big Mamba ball, drooling everywhere and loving it. Not something I would recommend now, but ocasionally I will take single pieces of all the flavors and make mini-Mamba balls.
cybele: You don't have a search on your site, and I haven't been able to look through all your archives yet, but have you done something on Kinder Eggs yet? Only one of the many crazy things originating here in Germany.
Okay, mad cow, that's pretty weird. Of course it can't be any weirder than me liking to buy white bread, take off the crusts and mush all the doughy insides into a big ball to eat as a snack.
I haven't found Kinder Eggs yet, though my husband did bring me a Kinder Bueno a few months ago from Canada.

I don't have search yet, but you can look on the "All Reviews" list, which has stuff divided out in to categories, ratings and country of origin.
I've got a lead on a place in Los Angeles that carries Kinder and I'll probably head over there before Halloween.
Mamba is one of my favorite chews, I actually like them more than starburst because they seem to have more "fruitiness" to them like you said. They also seem to be quite a bit cheaper for what you get.
